Tangled in DRM


After the current situation of ACTA being shortly before passed, I decided to release the following conversation I had almost 1 year ago. I purchased a blu-ray tripple play of the disney movie "tangled" specifically for the digital copy. I never tried it and I was looking forward to seeing the movie with my daughter on my macbook in the highest possible quality... Or so I thought. Even though I bought the product in the EU (UK to be precise) it wouldn't let me activate it (EU? Freedom of goods, money and people?). I contacted disney hoping they would help me resolve the situation (which they didn't). This is theft and I do not condone nor support such criminal behaviour

(You wouldn't steal a car, you wouldn't steal a handbar, you wouldn't steal a movie - Stealing is against the law. You only steal from your paying customers!)

Hello, I really enjoyed the movie in the Cinema and though it would be nice to buy an original. So I ordered the 3d/blu-ray/digital copy in the UK at www.?.com (my favorite internet shop).

I get welcomed by a leaflet inside, saying "ta/cheers/muchas gracias/thanks/a bundle" for buying this blu ray disc. Obviously you're not a knock-off nigel, but rather the kind of person who generally does the right thing".

However, since I'm not living in Ireland/UK, apparently I'm not allowed to register my digital copy in iTunes...?! Come on, that's unfair - I bought it, support the creators - and now I get stabbed in the back!

Again, I am 100% in favor of buying originals - even though it's easy to download from the internet - but I know how much work goes into the creation and I do want to support the industry; but this is just not right.

Please "do the right thing" from your side - let me use the product I bought...

Thanks for responding to my message so quickly. Could you please keep me updated in case of any decision (positive as well as negative) made on allowing me to use the product I bought ? Can I expect this within a reasonable 1-2 weeks timeframe?

Furthermore, I'd like to show you a part of my movie collection, including many from disney (see attached pictures) to show you I am a loyal (though currently a bit annoyed) customer. Could you be so kind to also forward this email to "the correct department". I like to make sure they understand that they are stealing from a loyal customer and it's not being appreciated - besides it being "against the law", as mentioned in the anti-piracy ads.

Also take into consideration the foundation of the European union (single market with free move of people, goods, services and money - please refer to http://europa.eu/pol/singl/index_en.htm for more information) - which allows me to order from any country within the EU without restrictions. I want to be able to buy movies wherever I want, and watch them whenever I want.

One month ago I bought Tangled (triple play with digital copy) but had problems registering it. My mail was forwarded to another department for consideration. One month passed now, and I think it would be fair to get an update on your considerations - will I be allowed to register and use the digital copy I purchased?

I'm really sorry to hear that. I understand now why people don't bother to buy movies but rather download them I know how to download it too - but I chose not to and instead supported Disney by buying your movies (and get a slap in the face for honesty).

I'll try to register it through a UK proxy - I guess you understand I won't be buying unusable movies in the future anymore.
